Catarina's Interview & Publication

SYNLAB Portugal

Catarina Silveira

What inspired your research and what did it cover?
My work is driven by my aspiration to make a meaningful impact on patients' lives. The research started during my internship at MSKCC in New York. Using high-depth sequencing of plasma cell-free DNA, we identified two driver mutations in a patient with metastatic breast cancer. This allowed us to monitor, by liquid biopsy, tumour progression after treatment.

Looking at the potential of your findings, what difference can they make?
Our study highlights the clinical value of genomic profiling in liquid biopsy for monitoring treatment response in cancer patients with metastasised disease.
