SYNLAB strengthens pathology leadership position in Germany by acquiring Institute for Pathology and Molecular Pathology Pforzheim

SYNLAB, Europe’s leading provider of medical diagnostic services and specialty tests, today announced the acquisition of the Institute for Pathology and Molecular Pathology Pforzheim, a highly specialized laboratory for histopathology, extra gynecological and gynecological cytopathology, molecular pathology and autopsy pathology, as well as morphological examinations as part of gynecological screenings and skin and mammography screenings. With the acquisition, SYNLAB strengthens its leadership position in medical diagnostics in Europe and strategically complements its pathology expertise and capabilities in Germany.

Mathieu Floreani, CEO of the SYNLAB Group, explains the strategic rational: “The acquisition enhances our positioning in Germany and Europe. Given its long-standing and highly specialized expertise and capabilities in pathology, the Institute for Pathology and Molecular Pathology Pforzheim provides a significant addition to SYNLAB Germany and the entire SYNLAB network. Already today, SYNLAB is a leader in the field of specialty testing, including genetics, infectious diseases and pathology. With the great team and capabilities of the Institute, we further underline our leadership ambitions and our continuous drive for growth and development.”

With revenues of around EUR 3 million in 2021, 24 highly qualified employees, and a broad and diversified client base, the Institute strengthens SYNLAB’s presence particularly in the South-West of Germany.

The acquisition is part of SYNLAB’s ambitious M&A strategy. The company continues to pursue acquisitions focused on generating synergies, extending its network of laboratories and increasing its technological capacity, allowing it to complement its services as well as its patient and customer base. SYNLAB expects to spend more than €200 million on M&A in 2022.
