SYNLAB celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
At SYNLAB, 76% of our employees are women, among which many are brilliant scientists. They bring great value to our patients, customers, and society in general and we are both grateful and proud of having them on our team.
To celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February 2021, we interviewed our scientists Laura Bigorra Lopéz, Eva Wohlleber and Cristina Lapucci about their career journeys and motivation for science.
Laura Bigorra López
Laura Bigorra López is a Clinical Pathologist and has been part of the Haematology Department of SYNLAB Spain since March 2015. Her areas of expertise in haematology are technology automation and digital and analog peripheral blood morphology. She is currently actively involved in data science as well, deploying machine learning models for haematological diagnosis. In her free time, she enjoys binge-watching interior design programmes, cooking (especially “Sunday Paella”), and of course good friends’ company.
Eva Wohlleber
Dr. med. Eva Wohlleber has been a Medical Specialist for Human Genetics since 2014 and became a part of SYNLAB Germany in 2016. She holds a medical degree from University of Bonn and has since 2014 published numerous scientific studies. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her 7-year-old son and friends, as well as traveling and reading.
Cristina Lapucci
Cristina Lapucci is a biologist specialized in human genetics. She has been working in the genetics laboratories since 2006 and joined SYNLAB Italy in 2017. Since then, she is responsible for the Italian medical genetic and molecular biology unit. On top of being an expert in medical genetic and molecular biology, Cristina loves to embroider and would like to decorate her home entirely with cross-stitch embroidery.
